Available throughout the year, Independence is a classic, full bodied and malty beer with subtle hints of mixed fruits and punches of spice. A perfect balance of Pilgrim and Saaz hops delivers a high quality, nicely rounded ale, with earthy and slightly spicy notes.

Cask-conditioned at Blackfriars, Glasgow 18/06/10. Amber coloured with a slight white head. Sweet, caramel aroma with some summer fruits. Flavour was similarly sweet and malty, with a touch of citrus hop, mineral edge and moderately bitter finish. Ok.

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm, 4 Dec 2009) Amber colour with foamy, off-white head. Malty, slightly nutty nose with notes of dried apricots, orange and toffee. Malty, nutty taste with apricots, orange, toffee and a slightly earthy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, balanced sweetness. Overall a tasty and very drinkable bitter.

Cask @ GBBF 09, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, nutty. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090806]

Dark golden with a small off-white head. Grainy malt aroma with notes of herbs and hay, and some diacetyl. Sweet malty flavour covered in diacetyl.

Medium offwhite creamy head. Slightly hazy pale coppery body. Prunes and caramel aroma, kind of faint. Dry wooden straw and caramel taste with dusty fruity notes. Mild, smooth mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Dry strawberry and wood aftertaste with dusty notes. Very nice. (0.25l cask, Oxford Bar, Edinburgh.)

Cask at The Malt Shovel, Edinburgh. Pale amber coloured, small off-white head, malty nutty nose. Malty caramel taste with some traces of hops and fruits. Watery palate, short dry finish. Quite boring bitter.

Cask@GBBF2009. Coppery golden colour, mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is caramel, mild nuttyness as well as some toffeeish and buttery notes. Flavour is nuts, fruits, wood and some buttery notes as well.

Half pint, cask at Oxford Bar in Edinburgh. Mid brown body with patches on the surface and lacing on the glass. Smell of earth fruits. Caramel-fruity flavoured. Satisfying bitterness. Flat and dry in the mouth. Well balanced ale [11.11.2008].
