The good people at Thornbridge say: Lord Marples is surprisingly smooth with light toffee and caramel characters, a mixture of floral and spicy hop notes and a pleasing bitter finish.

(Cask at Black Door, 20220204) The beer poured deep amber and clear. Its head was medium sized, white and it lasted long. Aroma had earth, grass and toffee. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were earth, grass, toffee, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste had earth, malts and bitterness. A pleasant malty brew with clean and hop notes.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a dark amber (though the lighting wasn’t very good), with a small white head and good lacing. There’s a sense of mushy ripe apples in the aroma. Malts and autumn fruit are prominent in the mouth. After a while some hoppiness comes through and there are hints of spices too. Finish is quite dry. Overall a decent standard bitter – nothing exceptional though.

Cask at Akkurat. First time here since pandemic started. Aroma of honey malts. Classic mahogany colour. Reasonable taste but quite dull and not giving me the true cask crunch I was hoping for.

30/4/2021. Cask at the Ale House, Chelmsford. Pours clear deep amber brown with a frothy/creamy off-white head. Aroma is very fruity, malty, nutty, caramel and cake. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness and body. soft carbonation. Fruity to the finish. Quite liked it, would be very sessionable.

Slightly unclear amber brown colour, small stable creamy off-white head, fair lacing. Aroma toasted malt, caramel, nutty notes. Mild taste, medium sweet and light bitter, malty, caramel, bit biscuit. Medium body, watery to oily texture, dry sweetbitter aftertaste, light citrus peel, earhy and nutty notes, long lingering roasty maltiness, nice bitter.
