The good people at Thornbridge say: Lord Marples is surprisingly smooth with light toffee and caramel characters, a mixture of floral and spicy hop notes and a pleasing bitter finish.

Bottle, small stable bubbly head, clear copper color, aroma of caramel with hints of fruity hops and hay, clean flavor of caramel and bread with a hint of fruit, light to medium mellow herbal bitterness, smooth. Excellent modern example of the style.

A dark brown beer, a head is quite big and light beige. Aroma has caramel malts, fruitness of lemon. Taste has some caramel maltyness, nicely strong bitterness that keeps the taste quite dry, wood, some fruitness. Almost medium bodied. Frehs. Good beer.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. One of those you’ve had dozens of, but somehow never rated. Light haze on a dark copper colour. Decent beige cap. Nose has fairly sweet malt. Grassy hop leaf. Some dried fruit. Well done granary crust. Taste is light bitter, with some sweetness on the lips. Light body, with foamy carbonation. Light bitterness to finish. Nice bitter. Better on cask though.

Handpull cask at the Queens Road Tap, Leicester as part of their Thornbridge Tap Takeover weekend. Light brown and clear with a ring of beige head. There's a woody, vinous smell to the beer with notes of forest floor, light potpourri, sarsaparilla. Sweet taste with a little dab of oaky sourness. There's more bitterness gathered in the earthy finish. Simple and satisfying.

From cask at Cardinal (horray, hooray, hooray!!!). Served by gravity in very good condition. And by this Cardinal proves its position as the best beer bar in Norway. Translucent dark golden. Fine off-white lacing and diminishing head. Fruity aroma with mediun roasted malt, berries and hints of herbs and yeast. Superb taste, with medium roasted malt, berries, marmalade and grass. Very good!

Cask (hooray!), gravity dispense, at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Brown colour, slightly hazy, small head. Decent natural carbonation. Malty aroma, a little fruit and yeast. The flavour is also malty but fairly dry, notes of yeast and earthy hops. Will probably be in even better nick a day later.
