At 4.0% alcohol by volume North Star is very black and very tasty with the traditional smooth porter palate of treacle, liquorice, toffee, chocolate and toast.

Gravicask, sample, from the Welsh and Scottish Bar, GBBF 09. Inky black body with ruby highlights. Smell of almost burnt grainy malt. Roasted grain in flavour with notes of liquorice and sweet malts. Dry ending, but still diluted in the mouth. Just half way pleased with this one (Earls Court, London 06.08.2009).

Cask@GBBF2009. Deep rubyish amber colour, not much head. Aroma is maple syrup, some nuts and caramel malts along with coffee and some slight roasted notes. Flavour is old coffee, some roasted malts, fruits and quite sourish wooden notes as well. Finishes in ashes and burnt notes.
