Notes from July 2009 The ice maker died yesterday. I guess the beer gods were tired of seeing me sip on nothing but iced tea all week. Bottle part of a birthday gift package sent to me by BigTex. :) Poured into my DFH off-centered tumbler. 254 8 A1P 09:21 Straight down the middle, the immediate feel of condensation reminds me that I haven't been drinking nearly enough fluids. I can't help but compare the body's color to that of a chill-hazed, cold brewed iced tea. As the half glass of cream-colored head begins to settle, I start planning my next beer. Sticky ridges of lace from across the room look like a still full glass, delaying it's consumption further. Back on track with a suitable candidate in the wings, I dive in. Smells of caramelized malt & toffee front & center, with crusty brown bread behind that. There's butter here, but it's pierced ever so slightly by a scent of oxidized apples & a fresh leaf herbal quality. Taste is a mix of quite herbal bitters, & dry grain. Sweetness, if any, is underneath dried out saltines. A quick hit of sharp lemon rind almost near the end, with just a peak at some toastiness. Long lingering dry & bittergreen(almost metallic) finish. Carbonation is strong. Feel is a bit grainy, again dry, but still quite free-flowing. Quite thirst quenching, but drinkability suffers only because English hops are so stuffy & boring. :P I can't wait till it snows.

Bottled. An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of bread and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of bread, malt, and caramel, leading to a dry bready finish.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy dark orange with a small tan head. Aroma is light breadish malty and roasted, light spice note. Mild sourish touch in the flavour alongside and sweet and slight herbal sensation. Bitter and light roasted flavoured finish. Somewhat off - still decent.

Bottle: Dark caramel color with a thin beige head. Nose is sweet and malty, very little citrus hops. Tastes more malty than anything with a very light bitterness. Peat, smoke, and florals. Wtf? Rather earthy stuff going on here...

Bottle appreciatively received from ericandersnavy. Dark reddish copper color with a huge beige head. Aromas of roasted caramel and light floral hop. Medium body with prickly carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt, touch of chocolate, and hop bitter. Still seems floral. Solid drink. Lots of flavor.

Bottle shared with ilovedarkbeer. Pours with a small, off-white head that leaves good lacing and retention. Clear deep amber body. Aroma of dark fruits, light EKG hops, lots of bready malts and a couple of berries. Taste is malty bread and a bit husky at that with a light yeasty astringency. Lightly carbonated and a water like mouthfeel.
