This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Pours black with a tan head. Roast malt aroma. Soft mouthfeel with low carbonation. Flavors of licorice, vanilla, oak and toasted malt. Bitter finish.

A little too syrupy and sweet for me. Smells smoky, lots of malt and booze. Some raisins and dark fruit. Pours thick on the palate. Aftertaste pretty sweet. More on the desert end of stouts. Didn’t get a chance to finish this because some douchy cop told me to toss it near Penn Station. Bottle.

355 ml bottle @ Haket. Pours oily black with a small creamy and slightly bubbly brownish beige head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sweet with roasted malts, quality dark chocolate, vanilla, biscuits, caramel, wood, fudge, sweetened coffee, prunes and hints of brandy. Taste is sweet and very tiny bitter with roasted malts, sweetened coffee, liquorice fudge, wood, vanilla, sweet dark bread, wet soil, golden syrup and hints of burnt caramel. Mouthfeel is  rather thin, sticky sweet, slightly round and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and very bitter with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, sweetened coffee, burnt caramel and toffee.

Odense Catching Up on Stuff Left in the Cellar Event July 2012. Near black with a small off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and vineous alcohol with a hint of licorice. Sweet and quite complex dark flavour with mild barrel character, and quite a bit of alcohol.

Enjoyed at Rattle n' Hum. $8 for a 6 ounce pour on draft. 1 finger coffee head faded fast. Pitch black. Zero light shines through. The dominant scent is roasted and dark Malts. There's a slight bourbon scent but it's weak. Taste. Wow. So incredibly smooth. Dominated by earthy dry oak wood and boozy bourbon. Not overly boozed. Slight smokiness. Vanilla and espresso finish. 40% carbonation on the mouth swish. Heavy body. Coffee dry finish. This is very nice. Quite balanced and very drinkable.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Cream, oak, and vanilla aroma, cocoa. Flavor has oak and vanilla, cocoa, some ashiness. The oak barrel aging does come through nicely, and it’s pretty good.

11/12/12/13/10/12
