Aged for four months in bourbon barrels from the distillery in Kentucky, the Bourbon Barrel Stout is a robust yet balanced beer. Roasted malts give it a chocolate and coffee overtone, and the oak creates hints of vanilla and caramel. At 10.5% ABV, this stout pairs well with smokey barbeque sauce or even rich desserts.

RBWGβ10 Pours dark brown, tan head. Aroma of dark berries, malty with a ligth roast. Flavors, thin bourbon, roasted malts, grainy, hints of bitter hops directly follwoed by warming touch of bourbon. Palate was also thin and enjoyable. Long and enjoyable dark fruits finish mixed with dark chocolate malts.

Sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective Stout tasting on 01/23/10. This brew pours black with a medium khaki head that diminishes quickly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Pungent bourbon aroma with some malt behind it. Medium to full body with a strong bourbon flavor and some vanilla and malt notes. The finish is boozy with a sweet and somewhat cloying malt aftertaste. Not a great effort overall.

Sampled at the January β10 Metro Detroit tasting. Thanks to whoever brought this! Poured black with a grey brown head. Aroma had a combination of bourbon, licorice, dark chocolate and coffee. Flavor had similar note but the bourbon is much more of an undertone with the coffee becoming more dominate.
