Asylum is in the style of a Belgian Tripel. It has a beautiful golden color. Its relatively light body is deceiving for a beer of its character. It has a sweet and spicy, complex fruity aroma and flavor derived from our distinct Belgian yeast strain. Asylum finishes with a subtle, warming character to help you relax on any night. Asylum is an exceptionally smooth Belgian-style brew. Drinking great beer brings the world together. “Vrede op aarde” (Peace on earth).

Can from Beer Republic. Aroma is candied fruits, bit estery, malt, ripe fruits, bit sugary, some floral notes. Sweet flavour, light bitter. Above medium body. Bit sticky, sugary fruits. Good Tripel.

Bottled. Ambery golden colour with a mediumsized foamy white head. Aroma is fruity, some caramel, peaches, spices and some slight alcohol. Flavour is fruity, alcoholic, some peach, mild yeasty and spicy tones as well as some toffee. Quite boozy in the finish as well.

In my hand is a bomber of Asylum, purchased on a late summer visit to Vegas. Fairly inexpensive for a tripel which is one of my favorite styles. Expectations are set low, let us see if the folks at Left Coast exceed them. I must point out that the label is painted on, not a paper or vinyl appliqué. Unusual these days. My Cowtown snifter is arrayed for this tasting and the delivery is an opaque yellow veering into orange with a steadfast, solid white head. I detect a quite active carbonation. The scent is yeasty with yellow fruit and white bread. A drink at last, quite aggressive in its opening. Apricot, grain, hay, candied fruit, some spiciness and a bit of bitterness at the backend. A fairly high abv, I notice it sooner rather than later. I’ll say it, I am pleasantly surprised. And I lift my glass in tribute to the yellow dog, we will miss you terribly.

22 oz bottle pours out a brownish orange color topped with a sand head. Nose is toast malts candy sweetness a little bit of brown sugar and some spice. Taste is more of the sweet malts spice a little bit of Belgian influence.

355ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, orangey, deep golden colour with small, frothy, diminishing, white head. Bready malty, fruity and peppery spicy yeasty aroma, lots of marzipan, hints of honey and apricot. Taste is sweet, bready malty, fruity, alcoholic and minimally peppery spicy yeasty, notes of marzipan, honey, hints of apricot. Oily texture, full body, lasting and warming finish.

Rich muddied brown coloured body with an amber glow and a very thick tan head. Aroma of honey, malt, toffee, caramel and a good deal of oak and vanilla and a ton of alcohol still noticeable. Full-bodied; Flavours of cereal, malt, oak, vanilla, honey, toffee, spices, coriander seed and a lot of alcohol to finish. Aftertaste is rich and very full-bodied with a ton of malt, toffee, caramel and especially alcohol warmth around. Overall, a nice beer that has a LOT to it, especially the texture with alcohol and depth, but this is more of a quad than a tripel, still, nice to try here in Hawaii, but this is a bad place to try this one - especially in the summer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Manama Market in Haleiwa, O’ahu, Hawaii on 21-August-2016 for US$9,49 sampled in my hotel room here in Waikiki a few hours later on 21-August-2016.

Bottle shared by Joes. Hazy orange color, average sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, candy sugar, brown sugar. Meh. Body and carbonation weren’t bad though.

Not bad but more barely wine than tripel. Not a patch on Westmalle. #sxshare
