XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade Hops. It demonstrates a unique balance between malt-inspired, red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness.

(bottle) clear honey amber, tall amber head; aromas of stewed fruit, citrus; rich balanced flavour; not a very strong imperial IPA but a tasty one nevertheless

12 oz. bottle, sent from LateStart (thanks Jordan), pours a vibrant dark reddish orange with a small beige head. Nose is very juicy, full of bitter grapefruit, tangerines, and truckloads of resinous hops. Flavour brings out huge notes of grapefruit, various tropical fruits (peaches, pineapple), juicy oranges, with truckloads of resinous hops, and just enough caramel malt to back. Low sweetness, making it quite dry on the palate, probably due to the high grapefruit quality. Much better than the average rating suggests, in my opinion. Excellent stuff.

Bottle: Poured a deep golden color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cascade hops with loads of citrus and pine notes is dominant. Taste is also dominated by loads of citrus and pine notes with a dry caramel malt base. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. A bit too Cascade-centric for my own taste but well brewed and better then expected.

(Bottle, 0.355 l - BBE April 2013, at Pikkulintu, 20120929) The beer poured amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had soap, malts and sugary fruit mixture. Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were hops, grass, herbalness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy, malty and bitter. The aroma was very weird but the taste was the one of an average double IPA.

One of three new ones at the LCBO (with their Barleywine and Imperial Porter). Pours a clean deep amber colour with an off-white head that gives out mild lace. Caramel malt scent with loads of hops and hints of grain. Wet mouthfeel with a little dryness. Nicely balanced taste with the sweetness of the caramel malt and the bitterness of the hop. Notes of fruits (raisins, grapefruits), nuts and butterscotch. An easy-drinking Imperial IPA with no alcohol burning that has lots to offer.

Pours orangy with a creamy head. Medium lacing. Smells boozy, hoppy, some citrus and malt. The aftertaste has kind of a barky barrel bitterness that’s a bit strong for my liking. A little sweetness there too and the alcohol shows strongly in the aftertaste. Good but could use some perfecting. Bottle.

35,5 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Konttori
Aroma is rather sweet with hops, resin, caramel and toffee. Flavour is sweet with resin, caramel, alcohol and biscuits. Not very nice; too sweet and alcohol comes through too much.

355ml bottle @ HilpeΓ€ Hauki, Helsinki

Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma of malts, gooseberries, fruits and hops. Taste is malty and slightly sweet with some fruity hops and berries. Finish is malty and syrupy with some fruity hops. Okay, perhaps a bit too malty and slightly unbalanced.
