XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade Hops. It demonstrates a unique balance between malt-inspired, red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness.

Sampled from the bottle at the Mundelin beer fest. Pours a clear amber orange with a light yellowish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has an earthy pine note with a decent malt backbone and a bit of caramel. Flavor as an earthy resinous note with a bit of pine and a sweet grains backing.

355ml bottle @Ahven, Helsinki. Poured amber color with a dirty white head. Same fish aroma here as in the Virgin Islands Island hoppin IPA I just had. Sweet malt and hops as well. Flavor has loads of alcohol, bitter, fruity hops and caramel. Unbalanced. Not very enjoyable.

Clear amber beer. Thin cream head. Slightly soft palate. Rich mix of sweetish malt, deep rich hops and aniseed alcohol. Unusually for an IPA there is some bubblegum ester. Hangs together well though and there is a little fruit and alcohol in the finish.

Draft @ the Press Room. Served in a Sam Adams snifter. Gold / copper in color. Thin white head, small rings of lace. The malts make this brew what it is. Very heavy on hops but in a well-balanced way. The malts give a hop forward English pale ale taste to it. The mouthfeel is a bit buttery, smooth, and fuller than medium bodied. Oily like texture. Medium carbonation. Light warming sensation as you swallow. If you like East Coast IPA’s, this is worth a try.

Paid $4.25 for this at Un Dun in West Lebanon. Poured into a Duvel Tulip. Best by November, 2012.

A - Three Finger Head, tight bubbles. The beer itself is dark leather to amber color in appearance.

S - Coffee, Vanilla beans, caramel, toffee, figs, raisins, apricots

T - Lots of apricot, brown sugar and toffee. Very strong dark fruits, sweetness and a dry yeast.

M - 50/50 Foam and Liquid after a nice swish. Medium bodied and a dry aftertaste.

O - This is a delicious beer. The XXXX naming makes you think it’s going to be extra bitter and hoppy. This is just a DIPA but with very few hops.

Cask: Poured a copper hazy color with a white head. Aroma is sweet malt with mellow hoppiness. Taste is sweet malt, bitter metallic hops, some bubblegum. Not getting this as an DIPA and wonder if the cask took the punch out of it.

A dark reddish brown ipa with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with dark fruits, resinous hops, light treacle. In mouth, sweet caramel malt with dark fruits, licorice, surranated hops, light oxydation, but still nice for a 9 years old ale.

3/08/2011 1pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle @ Klaas' place (2011-367) Thanks to Klaas for sharing the bottle!

Copper red beer, very small yellowish head, unstable and non adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, peaches, passion fruits, some pineapple, very sweet, alcohol noticeable on warming up. MF: light carbon, full body. Taste: very fruity start, pretty sweet, malts, piny and resin notes, floral touches too, some wild honey and pineapple in the end. Aftertaste: yeast, hop bitters, fruity still, spices (rosemary & thyme), pretty dry ending but very balanced beer!

Bottle at På Besök, Malmö; 4 months before the bbd
Amber color, clean; medium-sized creamy head. I expected a hoppy aroma and instead I get a mild aroma of fruits and candies, then some sweaty hops. Body of medium strength, with rather boring caramel and toffee flavor; bold bitterness but quite purposeless. Some alcohol in the final. Booze.
