Black as the night, 2 finger coffee head. Creamy and lacy. Roasted coffee, some pepper, chocolate and caramel. Light mouthfeel with some solid creaminess but not very dense for the ABV. Bitterness is refined. Exceptional toast character with a lot of balance.

Poured from bottle 11/18/14 thanks Airforcehops. Pours dark cola with a thin lacey tan head. Aromas of coffe cocoa tobacco and faint hint of bourbon. Taste is smooth and has mellowed. Nice notes of coffee cocoa oak and a balanced almost hidden alcohol finish. Well done.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Kappy’s Liquors. Danvers, MA. Bottle date of 11-18-14. Aroma shows chocolate, tobacco leaves, cocoa nibs with a nice mild undertones of bourbon.

The bourbon barrel treatment is a perfect compliment of the base stout. The body is on the full side which is what I expect in the style. The texture also has a nice creamy feel. The bourbon has totally mellowed out and gives just a slight warming after the sip, no alcohol flavor. Very smooth and a delightful BBA stout.

Bottle from bottle share, thanks to ???A nice way to finish the evening. thick, rich black RIS. Very warming, very welcoming, wood barrels add the right amount of booziness without detracting from the high quality stout host. Would be perfect on a a winter’s day, but enjoyable any time.

Cask at GBBF. 10.5%. Opaque black beer. Soft palate. Sweet malty start with a definite oaky streak. Finishes with rich sweet dark malt with hints of whisky and brandy liquer and oak. Lovely! The best beer at GBBF 2009.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head quickly recedes to nothing. Dark cherry and chocolate aromas. Thin to medium-bodied with dark, sweet caramel and candied pit fruit upfront turning to a lasting cherry chocolate finish. Reminds me of a Belgian RIS.

Served in a snifter at the source a solid black color with no head at all even if coaxed. Smells heavy on the oak, vanilla, bourbon, tart almost lactic dark fruits, light amount of roasted grains, hints of caramel. This has got a really great nose, but it seems about this far away from a lactic sourness. Taste is much what I gathered it would be form the aroma. Vinous tart dark fruits bordering on lactic with a redeeming okay vanilla mixed with roast and brown sugar. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a vinous mouthfeel. I enjoyed this brew very much, but either the batch or the barrel is slowly turning sour. It’s lost some of the big stout character, assuming it had some to begin with, but still a nice brew.
