Pugsley's Signature Series

Barley Wine Style Ale is a big beer made with six different malts (Pale Ale, Crystal, Caramunich, Wheat, Chocolate and Roasted Barley) and balanced with a very full hop charge of Summit, Challenger and Fuggles hops. It is a deep reddish brown color with a complex fruity nose, a very full body, and an interesting balance between grains and hops which ends with a pleasing dry taste. To fully enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. 8.5% alcohol by volume.

Bottled: Pours dark brown with ruby highlights. Head is small. Smooth, creamy and chocolately toffee aroma. Flavour was slightly roasted and has notes of chocolate and toffee. The alcohol gives a somewhat harsh finish.
This beer might be the missing link between dunkler bocks and baltic porters.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of joergen. Clear, warm orangey brown with a creamy light brown head. Aroma of nuts and hops. Full-bodied, a little burned maltiness and coffee accents. Distinctly bitter finish. Not too bad, but not really your typical Barley Wine, rather an Imperial Brown or something. 270609

65 cl bottle thanks to deft!BB 10.04.30On June 22, 2009First time I’ve seen a barley wine with a twist off cap...Clear dark red to black color, brown head. Sweet, lactic, butterscotch, alcohol, licorice scent. Lactic, salty, alcohol, grainy, malty taste. Coffee and roasted aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel, medium high bitterness.Peppry alcohol.More of a stout or porter than a barley wine, though still enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours with a tan head over a hazed deep brown body. Aroma of toffee, banana, chocolate and dark fruits. Taste is lightly roast and astringent, with a dark fruit quality, raisins, some earthy chocolate, and toffee. Creamy mouthfeel, light carbonation. Pretty basic, but not horrible by any means.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear burgundy color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some dry English hops also noticeable. Taste is a mix between some sweet malt with light biscuit notes with some dry English hops. Malts are lacking in complexity with no dry fruit or any other characteristics. Body is a bit light with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol.
