750mL bottle at Muted Horn, pours a deep dark mahogany with a tiny head. Nose is full of earthy funk, leather, oxidation, and crusty bready malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with earthy funk, light leather, oxidation, and very gentle bready malt. Seems oxidized but it can't be that old. Probably my least favourite of the I's, but it's still very lovely.

One of the second generation Spelingen van het Lot by what is among the finest of lambic producers, bottle (one of 1338 in total) shared with Luìs at Lambik-O-Droom. Probably the weirdest one in this whole series, as it contains honey, but no wheat - an all-barley lambic with dark malts, so to speak, though 3F understandably refuses to refer to it as a lambic; quite a unique brew, that much is clear, but since spontaneous fermentation has no other designations than 'lambic' (due to lambic being the only form of spontaneously fermented beer left), I would have no issues in referring to this as a dark lambic. Loosely structured, irregular, greyish white, coarse, bubbly head, opening immediately in the middle and eventually dissolving altogether, over a deep, dark mahogany brown beer with wine red hue, clear initially but of course hazy with sediment. Aroma of sour blackberries, damp autumn tree leaves, nutty oloroso sherry, moist nutmeg, red wine vinegar, sour apples, haystack, acorn shells, dry forest floor, balsamico, cold black tea, old wet toasted bread, yoghurt, earth. Estery onset, sour apple, blackberry and elderberry, slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation; sour but not puckering, with a strong, deep, sedate lactic tartness running through the whole. Bready, bit toasty but more than anything, very nutty and even nut shell-like maltiness, dried by this lactic acidity and turning tannic, woody and notably earthy in the finish, with a dash of bitter toastedness amidst drying sourness, sour blackberry and dried elderberry aspects, as well as something wry and 'tree leafy'. The honey remains all but unnoticeable. Like the other dark lambics in both generations of 3F's Spelingen, this beer is a class on its own, with certain oud bruin-like features, albeit in a much earthier and more outspokenly sour manner. I guess it can be considered the missing link between both Belgian sour beer traditions; unique, but in comparison with the other dark Spelingen, perhaps a bit too much on the rough, earthy and astringent side. Bonus point for boldness and originality, though.
