Tom Paine is a premium dry hopped bitter named after the celebrated radical who lived in Lewes in the late eighteenth century. America celebrates 'Independence Day' on the 4th of July and in Britain CAMRA has designated July 'Independents Month' in celebration of Britain's independent brewers.

Cask at the Royal Oak, RBESG 2011. Pretty amber color with a solid head. Grat hoppy nose, citrus and minerals. Lovely clean, hoppy, and tasty flavor. Earthy, light malt but great solid hops. Some citrus and grass, and a nice, peppery bitterness.

(Cask at Charlies Bar, Copenhagen) Poured amber and clear. Head was medium sized, sparse and white. Aroma contained malts and mildly caramell. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramell, mildly roastedness and bitterness. Aftertaste was bitter.

Cask (handbottled by harrisoni) @ Chriso’s pre GBBF Shindig ’09.Clear medium to dark amber color with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, wood - tobaco, moderate to light heavy hoppy, orange. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, spicy - peppery, a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. [20090801]

Amber with a small white head. Herbal hop aroma reminding me of nettles. Dry and hoppy, quite herbal flavour, with bread crust and biscuit and a touch of honey. Quite bitter finish

Clear amber with a medium off white head. Aroma had a fairly amount of hops, malty and floral notes. Flavour was hoppy with fruits, malts and caramel. Finished bitter.

Cask at Royal Oak, London. An amber coloured ale with a fluffy white head. Hoppy, fruity aroma. Hoppy, malty, fruity taste. I always drink this in July at the Royal Oak. A cracking beer.

Cask at Dr. Louise, Esbjerg. Creamy white good fully lasting head. Orange colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Warm nice barnyard like notes. moderate bitter flavor. hay notes. Average nice bitter finish. Creamy palate. Excellent.

Cask-conditioned at the Royal Oak, SE1 1/8/08. Cooper coloured with a moderate, off-white head. Toffee aroma with some marmalade. Flavour was sweet with some balancing dry hops and yeast. Marred slightly by a hint of green apple and woodiness in the finish.
