This is a small beer with a big ego. Basically we created Imperial Petit Four Break from the second runnings of Imperial Biscotti Break mash - this is an ancient brewing tradition where we get two different beers from one mash - then we added a little ’je ne sais quoi’ and sprinkled with the secret Imperial ingredient. The result is a slightly less arrogant but very cool session beer.

Bottle. A- Dry, cocoa, roasty. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Roasty, plastic, cocoa, watery. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, roasty finish. O- Imperial in the name, but less abv than a Budweiser? That makes a lot of sense. Pretty boring and not real exciting. Blow it up with some coffee or something. Not a lot happening here for me.

On tap at Beachwood. It pours a dark brown color with a large tan head. The aroma is chocolaty and roasted. The flavor is very thin, but has some nice roast and chocolaty notes. Pretty drinkable.

Bottle. Coffee, chocolate malt, and light hay aroma. Dark brown with minimal head. Mildly sweet chocolate malt and mildly bitter herbal hay and ash flavor. Body on the light side. A nice session beer.

Bottle: Nearly black, with a thick, dark tan head. Aroma of day-old brownies, coffee. Flavour is dark roasted chocolate malt, coffee malt. Moderate coffee-ground bitter. Excellent.....bold, big taste....rich, but light enough to have 2 or 3 at a sitting.

22 oz. bottle from One Stop Market. Deep brown with garnet highlights around the edges of the glass. Aroma is weak coffee bean, light malt, burnt barley.

Flavor shows very lean roast, old coffee grounds and burnt barley. Pumpernickel bread hints. Mouthfeel has a very mill carbonation with a dry texture. The body is on the lean side with an astringent coffee bitterness in the finish. Drink this right away because this will not have a long shelf life. Honesty right now it is very ho-hum.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but was just released this month. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness after the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.2%. Overall this a damn nice session coffee porter. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
