(On tap @ Mikkeller SD, April 5/17) Pours black with a nice dense medium tan head that lasts well and leaves lace. Aroma has lots of orange peel, light orange juice vibe, roasty and ashy coffee, leafy hops, semi-sweet chocolate definitely present but not the dominant addition. Flavour is lightly sweet dark malt, lots of orange peel and oil, coffee grounds, fresh pine, chocolate, ash, earth. Finish has lots of bitterness from the hops and coffee, lingering fruity orange notes persist into the aftertaste. Medium body, smooth creamy carb. Loads of adjunct character overall, but it works pretty well with the base black IPA and probably elevates it. Nice one, at least as a small pour.
