A rich, rare treat. An epic labor of love that will change your notion of what beer can be. Brewed with maple syrup and honey, and aged for three years, its warm toffee notes and round mellow tone are purely stunning. Like candy for the soul.

Bottled 6/9/06. Pours with a black body and a small off-white head. Aroma is alcohol, grainy, dry animal food, raisins, biscuit and chocolate. Taste is awesome with Madeira, port, vinous notes, alcohol raisins, smokey barbecue, brandy and brown sugar. Syrupy with light bubbles. Not very easy to get down (because of the immense alcohol), but still a very delicious drink.

Huge thanks to tpd975 for opening this rare gem. Pours dark darkness with thin dark brown that quickly vanished. The aroma is inviting with caramel, vanilla and rich ripe dark fruity esters of sweet Concord grape jam, plums and ripe cherries. A bigger draw begins to pick up the alcohol heat. The mouth feel is chewy fudgy slushy and sludgy sugar sticky sugar malts. I get notes from the nose showing up in the flavor such as vanilla, caramel, molasses, toffee along with faint notes of dark chocolate. The taste does have a solid alcohol warming sensation but well within reason for the gynormous ABV. This was very nice.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a rim of brown head. The aroma is very complex with notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, bourbon, and wood. The flavor is very, very malty combined with notes of caramel, bourbon, prunes, over ripe fruits, and alcohol, that burns in the throat.

Black color, the head disappears quickly. Strange aroma, mixing the usual elements with alcohol, phenol and medicines; if not for the roasted malt, it smells like some herbal Mead. Strong flavor of caramel, maple, some chocolate and light roasted malt; sweet too, with some vanilla; the alcohol is really burning, probably more than any other beer; the mouthfeel is not thick, too much carbonation for such a beer. Very chaotic and strange, not an excellent beer, I like some flavors but it’s extremely alcoholic and weird.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown and witha reddish hue and a completely gone, fizzy brown head. Aroma is heavy chocolate, slight eye burning alcohol. Flavour has a lovely chocolate flavour to a solid oaked alcohol flavour, slight spiced. Ends quite warming. Nice to fantastic.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Bierkönig. Pours a clear, reddish brown with a tiny, off-white head. Intense aroma of overripe fruit and wood. Extremely full-bodied with a shipload of roasted malt, dried and overripe fruit. Woody, almost cognac style notes with an overwhelming alcohol finish. But really more like a Barley Wine or an Old Ale than an IS. Truly excellent - I’m surprised by the mediocre ratings. 171107

12oz bottle-pours a thin dissipating brown head and black color with red tint. Aroma is plenty of dark malt-molasses/tar, dark fruit, some vinuous. Taste is nice and big, plenty of dark malt, sweet molasses/chocolate/tar, dark fruit, some alcohol comes through but nice compared to actual 20%, some earthy/wood hops, smooth. Ok/mild carbonation. Occasional. Not my style but well done.

Jimmack Invitational’07, shared by lou18. Pours completely dead with no head or lacing. Aroma is strong alcohol and maple syrup. Taste is all about alcohol with some chocolate and again more maple syrup. Overpowering, nose scorching, off putting. Too sweet, too strong, too nasty, not beer-y enough.

Man I had no idea this beer was so strong from my sample. It has a very good fruit and malt aroma. Flavor has sugar, mollasses, and is very sweet. It is strong enough to leave a light burn on the tongue. Thanks Brewfiend.
