On October 13, 2007, at our Brewery Tenth Anniversary Party (Waffles and Puppets) we introduced Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence Stout to the world. Chocolate Indulgence comes with a thick tan head of foam resting on top of the rich onyx-colored liquid. The aroma immediately speaks of dark chocolate and dark malts. The gentle herbal nose of Perle hops compliments the darker notes, making the beer savory to the senses.

The taste continues with the intense Belgian dark chocolate gliding across the tongue; starting sweet up front but giving way to rich cocoa flavors at the back. Through it all, a subtle fruitiness from our special Belgian yeast gives the beer brightness otherwise foreign to a beer style normally associated with gray foggy skies.

Bottle. Very disappointed in this one. Very dark almost black with a medium tan head. Aroma is very much like a Belgium ale, not so much a stout. Taste is like basement, some spice, not much chocolate.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle poured into a glass. Aroma is chocolate, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste chocolate, cola, and slightly dry finish.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled on 10/29/2010. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy dark tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malt, light char, raisin, prune, toast, toffee, earth, floral, clove, and yeast spiciness. Damn nice aromas with great balance, strength, and complexity of chocolate, dark malt, and fruity ester notes. Taste of cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malt, raisin, prune, caramel, toast, toffee, earth, light clove, and yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, caramel, toast, toffee, earth, light clove, and yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of chocolate, roasted malt, and yeast ester flavors; with nice robustness; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian style stout! Great balance and complexity of chocolate, roasted, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Shop Rite-Hoboken, 5/14/12

Aroma: The nose is roasted/burnt malts, licorice, dark chocolate, and unsweetened coffee
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a small light brown head and mid-heavy lacing
Flavor: Tastes lightly sweet chocolate/coffee/roast up-front, finishes with a dry roasted malty bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-full, with a smooth feel, some acidity is present, and it finishes rather dry
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid offering from Ommegang. It has that typical Ommegang feel to it, and the components all work together pretty well. The chocolate and coffee lean much more to the bitter side in this beer then they do to the sweet side. Overall, pretty good stuff.

Bottle bought in Chicago in October 2011. Almost black with a small tan head. Aroma and taste of chocolate, some coffee and light notes of hops. Not that heavy but rather pleasant. A light sourness in the taste.
