Hopfiger, süß hellmalziger Beginn. Das Bier wird dann dunkler, die Süße bleibt leider erhalten. Geringe, zum Ende steigende Herbe. Zitrus, weitere Fruchtnoten sind hintergründig. Hopfig-bitterer, etwas trockener Nachgeschmack. 9/8/9/9/9/9

(bottle) Clear, golden colour with a blond medium-sized foamy head. Discreetly bready malty aroma with hints of butter and citric hops. Mildly bitter and sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with an almost crisp carbonation. Balanced hop-bitter and sweet malty taste with fruity accents of citrus; dry-ish malty and bitter hoppy finish. A clean and pleasantly more-ish Ale. 30.VI.12

Bottle at Bruce’s Housewarming Tasting. It pours hazy light orange, with a thick white head. The nose is orange, tinned fruit, peach, apricot and sherbet. The taste is orange, apricot, tinned peach, sherbet, hay, straw and some spice. Medium body, fine carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Good balance, flavoursome and pretty smooth.

Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours clear gold with a tight, white foam head. Ripe fruit nose. Medium to big sweet flavor, melon, other ripe fruits, faint pine, wet bread, some semi-darkened sugars. Actually a pretty nice quaffer. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, fairly sticky finish with lots of ripe fruits, jammy berries, some dates. Quite sweet with lots of ripe, semi-dark fruits, but not at all cloying. Lightly dry on the end, which provides some escape from the sugars. Nice beer. (3.7)

Bottle at Bruce’s Housewarming Party Tasting, London. Very solid all around. Looks great. Some light citrus jam carries the beer - think marmalade. Not overly sweet. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Very mild warmth in the end, more jammy citrus character. Very nice beer. (3.7)

Bottles from Cork & Cask. Hazy golden body with an off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of orange marmalade, honey, pear and lime zest. Flavour of lime chutney, earth and lemon drops. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture. Soft fizz. Tangy and zesty, very nice. I’d be interested in trying a stronger version, which could be aged/savoured more like a barley wine.

Take 2 - Bandstand Bar, Nairn 040812
Aroma - sweet fruity malts, straw hops, soft zest, citrus orange
Taste - rich sweet fruity syrupy malts, bitter hop background, soft orange zest, some bitter orange, touch of pale toffee malts, very slight rubber, alcohol too noticeable for abv
Palate - soft carb, medium body, oily, bit dry, bittersweet juicy malt finish with a hint of cereal
Overall - It’s just too boozy and somewhat cloying. I’m not a fan of this - no change to the rating - it’s still 3.1

Cask @ Blackfriars, Inverness 111011 7/3/6/3/12
Golden amber, clear, thin white head.
Aroma of sweet golden malt, sweet fruits, orange, apricot, rich sweet marmalade.
Taste similar to aroma, but not quite as good. The alcohol was quite noticeable.
Palate - sweet, soft carb, oily, syrupy malts. Finish - Sweet apricot with some citric bitterness. Bitter overhang with warming alcohol.
The aroma was good, but the taste didn’t quit match the aroma. Seemed good at first, but by the end of the 1/2 pint, the malts seemed a bit cloying and syrupy, and it was rather boozy for 6%.

Bottle at Per’s. Slightly hazy amber body, small fast disappearing white head. Fresh fruity malty taste, light bubblegum. Fine distinctly fruity taste, peaches. Light bitter taste. This is actually quite tasty. Not terribly complex, definitely tasty.

Re-rating, a really great cask experience - rich but refreshing. Previous Re-rate 28/08/11 7+4+7+4+14 = 3.6. More of the cleverly integrated yeast and hops on this experience and less aware of the strength, as it comes in understatedly and finishes cleanly and elegantly. Previous rating 20/04/11 6/3/7/4/14 = 3.4 50cl bottle. Pours an orange colour with steady bubbles and a good frothy head. The nose is of pale malt and nettles. The taste has more pale malt and nettles, also some hay and perhaps an apple note. The palate is fairly light in body and structure and there is a very long refreshing structure. Overall, I think I could drink it all night,
