The St. Marienthaler Klosterbräu is still a very special monastery beer today. On behalf of the St. Marienthal monastery, it is being brewed by the private brewery Eibau according to the old, traditional recipe of the Cistercian monastery. And with the first sip you can feel: This is a beer that brings old times back to life:
spicy and tasty, full-bodied in taste. Cheers!

Zakopianka Gallery in Cracov. Piana jedyna rzecz na plus, jest sporawa i trwala, tworzy sie koronka w kufelku. Jaskrawa jasna zlota i klarowna barwa, lekko chmielne, lekko slodowe, lekko chlebowe, nudne.

Nice malty graininess that I like in a helles. However has some of the oktoberfest-style astringency I don’t like.

Bottle @ home. Clear golden color, medium to full sized white to off-white head that lasts for quite a long time. Aroma is malts, lightly grainy, lightly straw. Taste malts, initially lightly sweetish, a subtle malty hoppy touch, lightly straw and a slight bitter finish. Decent and suitable body and carbonation. Very nice, very well balanced and a really nice helles imo.

Typical old school Münchener Helles from a 50 cl bottle, with yellow blonde colour, clear with almost no fizz and lonely protein bits floating around here and there; sweet grainy aroma, sugar corn (even though it is brewed to the Reinheitsgebot so no corn is used!), iron, honey, chamomille, hint of freshly cut grass, white bread dough and that’s about it. Sweet grainy taste - almost like a cheap pale lager, but admittedly a bit fuller and more genuine, with slightly oily mouthfeel; sourish touch, medium carbonation tingling a bit, bit metallic, grainy, a bit honeyish, minerally; finish is slightly dryish without becoming actually hop bitter as expected from the style, medium body (that is to say: less thin and less watery than expected), minerally, pale grainy malt sweetness still dominating, some soft floral hop bitterishness providing more retronasal aroma than actual bitterness, again as expected from the style. In all: a typical German Helles and doubtlessly an acceptable thirst-quencher in summer, but the plain grainy sweetness was a bit of a downer for me, could have been more noble. ’Cheapish’, even more so than I am used to from this style and, frankly, boring!
