Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

While doing a Goose Island sampling, I accepted samples from other samplers at the store. There you go. This has a big, green hop nose from its amber body; with low foam. There’s a big green hop taste, too. Hoppiness can help hide the alcohol, and I did not get too much of a jolt from my little sample.

Bottle @ Brewdog, Edinburgh. Pours amber with a decent head. The nose is rich in toffee and oranges. The taste is more oranges, perhaps chocolate orange but probably closer to honeycomb. The palate has a really big structure with a big tangy texture, but somehow it manages to finish quite elegantly. Overall, a lovely beer.

Smells great. Tons of hops, roasted barley and citrus, caramel and other fruitiness. Pours with good head and good lacing. Dark mahogany. Taste is bitter for a good bout of aftertaste. Palate is thick, with a good dose of alcohol and a syrupy feel. Wonderful beer.

Vintage 2010
Clear, ruby red colour, slight off-white head. Hoppy aroma, fruity, caramel, light sour, apricot, red fruits, older american hops. Malty sweet flavour, hoppy bitter, light candy. Quite sticky sweet malts. Bitter finish, malty sweet, fruity hops.
Still really nice in a bit older age.
