Another old favorite and a bit of a legend now. It's essentially a porter/stout hybrid combining the qualities of an old ale so fairly trad in style. Alot of depth here and fairly complex but not without hop bitterness and extremely deceptive. Lots of complex lingering flavours, very warming, well rounded finish.

8/10/2021. Cask at the 43rd Bedford Beer and Cider Festival. Pours clear dark maroon brown with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma of plum, dark fruits, ash, chocolate. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, slight creamy texture, average carbonation. Nice bitter fruity finish. Enjoyed this.

Cask at Flowerpot, Derby (said to be 6.9%) Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Has an enticing fruity and smoky aroma with raisins to the fore. A nice combination of tastes for the mouth to digest as well – prunes, coffee, Christmas cake all with some alcoholic strength. Finish is bitter and boozy ! This is rather nice, and easy drinking for its strength.

Cask at Sheaf View, Heeley... on Boxing Day. - Deep cloudy brown body, thin white head. Nose is spicy and fruity with some light hoppy notes. Taste is spicy as well, berries, some liquorice and dark chocolate. Quite nice for that time of year.

Cask at Marble Arch, Manchester. A hazy red-brown beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, leading to a dry and lightly roasted finish.

Cask gravity at Notts BF 05. Ties as my beer of the festival. Black beer with lasting beige head. Intense hop, dark malts, some tar and bitter choc. Like a really good imperial style stout. Beautifully balanced, hops on end plus more bitter choc. Not too strong not too intense, not too alcholic, perfect balance
