Cask at Bull & Stirrup, Chester – advertised as “Bavarian cask lager”. Pours a golden yellow with a small white head and good lacing. There’s malts and berry fruits in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite sweet with summer fruits and apples being the most immediate flavours. Later on some floral hops and oranges come into play. Finish is slightly bitter. This is reasonable but doesn’t have much lager characteristic.

Cask @ Volunteer Canteen, Waterloo, Liverpool. Golden with a creamy head. Has a berry-fruit nose with a hoppy-fruity taste in this respect - all of which has a sweetness to it.
