Since Day One, we've been abundantly forthright and fully transparent about our lust for hops. It's led us to craft many an IPA, most of them imperial—some intense for their time and all timeless in their intensity. For Stone Go To IPA, we embrace our hop obsession in a new way, funneling an abundance of lupulin-borne bitterness into a session IPA that delivers all the fruity, piney character of a much bigger IPA. To accomplish this, we employ hop bursting, a technique wherein an irrational amount of hops is added during the final phase of the brewing process to bring out extreme flavors and aromas while also imparting a burst of desirably pleasant bitterness. The result is an alpha-acid-rich beer that fans can enjoy more of without missing out on the assertive hop character you, like us, crave. So, sit back and go two with your new everyday go-to IPA and bask along with us in the glory of the almighty hop.

This beer employed the hop-bursting technique, which in essence is a hopping method where all or most of the bitterness in the beer comes from late hop additions in the brewhouse, like at the end of boil and in the whirlpool, instead of the more traditional approach where most of the hop bitterness comes from earlier additions at the start of the kettle boil. The result is a beautifully aromatic beer with substantial but somewhat mellow bitterness. Hop bursting also enhances the flavor retention of the hops, and combined with the dry hop, creates a very intense and complex hop flavor.

Tap at Brewdog Birmingham. Poured a hazy straw colour with a frothy white head and lots of broken lace. The aroma is resin nettle hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a crisp, yeast, grapefruit citrus hop bitter, light spice palate. Light bodied with average carbonation.

4 week old 16oz. can into an IPA. A: Pours a 1" frothy head retaining well, leaving a bubbly collar and leggy lace. Very clear brassy color with big lazy bubbles rising. S: Soft, citrus and pine scent with a bit of cracker malt. T: Bitter and mostly piney with big citrus pith. Sourdough malt note is almost overwhelmed. M: Crisp and light bodied with medium carb level and a clean dry finish. O: One of the better of the more widely available SIPAs and the new pintcan sixpack is a great value.

Stone’s ISA, with creamy, snow white, stable and sticky head over a deep warm golden blonde robe with quiet sparkling. Lovely hoppy aroma of chamomille, dried apricot, hay, lemon peel, unripe pear, dried orange peel, cedar needles. Very delicate flavour: a ’clean’, crisp fruitiness to begin with (pear, gooseberry, unripe pineapple), soft minerally accents and even a slight saltiness, citrus peel fraîcheur over a dry pale maltiness, only very subduedly sweetish and announcing a long, dry, mouth-lining hoppiness, bearing lemon peel and pine resin flavours and leaving no residual maltiness. Extremely thirst quenching and utterly refined at the same time: this is the best session IPA I had so far. Thanks to Ster of the BeerTemple for keeping this aside for me!

Lightly hazy gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and crisp. Light and mildly sweet malts. Hops are grassy pine with mild herb. Orange pith and modest hop spice. Light finish. Goes down very easy.
