Birra Moretti La Rossa is a double malt beer produced using 100% high quality barley malt. This gives it a full, caramelised malt flavour and an intense aroma of roasted malt. Its distinctive amber colour originates from the type of malt used when brewing, a special malt which is dried and roasted.

Pours a slightly murky dark brown with a not too big off-white that shows pretty good retention and a touch of lacing. Aroma shows caramel malts, slight roasted malts and a hint of fruitiness. Simple but vivid enough. Taste is medium to high sweet and medium bitter, overall quite on the sweet side and averagely so per style. Same notes as in the aroma, maybe a bit monotonous. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation, a bit light in a body for a doppelbock, given the not too high abv could as well be listed as a dunkler bock.Overall a fair and flawless dark bock, though quite unsignificant.

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a nice foamy head with medium retention and some lacing. Aroma of light caramel malt notes with some residual sugar notes also noticeable. Taste is also a mix of caramel malt with light cereal notes and residual sugar. Body is about average with good carbonation. OK amber ale but nothing to write home about.

0.33 l bottle from ’Bier & Beer’, best before June 2018. Clear, very dark red with a medium large, foamy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of mainly caramel, dark honey, some chocolate, lovage and a touch of red fruits. Quite sweet, malty and slightly roasty taste of caramel, chocolate, nuts, dark honey and hints of red fruits, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly metallic and a bit boozy finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Not that great, just a simple and typical industrial Bock.
