Birra Moretti La Rossa is a double malt beer produced using 100% high quality barley malt. This gives it a full, caramelised malt flavour and an intense aroma of roasted malt. Its distinctive amber colour originates from the type of malt used when brewing, a special malt which is dried and roasted.

Pours a rich copper from a bottle. Caramel-y nose and flavor, well-balanced. Not much going on, but no real faults either. Good beer.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/26/2014. Pours clear deep ruby red/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, light nuttiness/roast, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, light nuttiness/roast, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, light nuttiness/roast, raisin, plum, fig, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good doppelbock style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours a clear coppery brown color, topped with a medium sized off-white head. Quite strong malty aroma, roasted notes with some caramel as well. Taste is very sweet and malty, some mild caramle and roasty notes and presence of gentle alcohol burn. Not a fan of doppelbocks, this one wasn’t as strong as some others, so a bit better, though still not the best.

12 oz bottle poured. No bottled date, and I have reasons to believe it?s been around a while. Pours a dark amber color. Soft bread and sweet malt aroma. Light flavor with bread and some banana. Minimum sweetness. Much better than expected. I will drink this again.
