(Tap sample at the brewery, Aug 30 2014) Didn’t take notes at the time, quick general impression. Pours nearly black with a big, frothy pale brown head and lace. Aroma of dark chocolate, moderate roast, good amount of barrel/whiskey character, stronger than ABV suggests. On the palate, some sweet dark malt core with chocolate, medium amount of roast with some coffee, charred wood, bourbon notes. Dry roast finish with a fair amount of lingering barrel character. Tastes bigger than it is but easy to drink. Oats don’t show up in flavour, but come across in creamy, quite full body with soft carb. Would have got more but the keg blew when I asked for a full glass...and only quick footwork saved me from getting a blast of foam all over my suit in the process.
