(On tap at Bryden’s, June 18 2014) Pours a hazy dark gold with a fading bubbly white cap, no lace. Nose of fresh apricot, nectarine, bit of raspberry, woody Pinot barrel character, slight tart note. On the palate, mixed sweet/tart at first, juicy apricot, slight citrus acidity, some pinot grape character, some wood. At the finish it dries out, still kind of tart, dried apricot, some spicy Belgian yeast, lingering barrel character, slight bitterness. That dried apricot and barrel persists surprisingly long after the sip given the low abv. Mouthfeel light, carb fairly high but pretty prickly. An interesting blend of refreshing and complex. I liked the normal version from last year but it was pretty straightforward. The barrel adds a different layer to the beer, but works pretty well with the fruit.
