(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto, June 2012) Poured a pale slightly hazy gold with a cream head that left lacing behind. Interesting aroma, like being in a shack where herbs were being dried over a charcoal bed. Some cardamom and sage coming through, the smoke was subtle but seemed to accentuate the herbs. Also a mild yeasty citrus peeking through the stronger smells. On the palate, the first few sips had light smoke coupled with slightly sweet malts, yeast funk and herbs - the rosemary coming through more here, with some cardamom spice. The finish was lightly bitter and spicy. As the beer warmed, the smoked herbs increased in prominence and threatened to become a bit overbearing. Body medium, soft carb. This was a interesting hybrid style and very well-made with unique flavours. I could probably go for a smaller portion though.
