Abnormal Genius is an Imperial English Style Golden Ale brewed with honey and sunflower seeds. A distinct aroma of peanut butter emits from this deep golden-colored ale, undoubtedly the result of the unique combination of ingredients used. Honey flavors are predominant with a balanced finish that is not overly sweet, bitter or dry.

Bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is sweet with honey and a bit of underlying sunflower seeds and floral notes. Flavor begins sweet with honey and sweet grain, but a unique sunflower note coming out towards the finish as well as a bit of alcohol.

courtesy of the Shorts tasting night group. early ’07 bottle. bottle #375 pours cloudy orange with thin white head. Aroma of strong honey that really does come through with hints of sunflower seeds adding a light sweet pine nose that one get from eating grilled sunflower seeds.. Flavor, thick warming honey goodness. I enjoy sweet honey in beer and this one was just all over the beer, giving it a mead like palate with lingering sunflower pine in the background. Add to the mix some caramel and malts you get a nice honey bomb.

Bottled@Konttori, Tampere. Hazy orange colour, not much head. Aroma is hops, fruits, yeast and some caramel. Flavour is toffee, fruity hops and some mild alcoholic sweetness. Aftertaste is rather peachy along with some alcohol and wood. Quite much a double IPA with some twisted notes. Pleasant and very drinkable.

Tasting at Papsoe
Hazy amber color; creamy head. Breadish aroma, maybe also with the sunflower seeds. Good Ale, solid moutfeel, good malt, medium sweetness, with a different bread touch than other beers, and light honey. Correct bitterness. Strange but not bad.

Sample at the Columbus Ratebeer gathering at ogglethorp’s 11/20/08: Thanks to rogueone for sharing bottle #313! This brew is a hazy translucent orange color with a thick and fizzy off-white head that recedes steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma is barnyard-esque with notes of citrus and grain. Medium-bodied with flavors of musty malt, yeast and honey roasted nuts. Slight funk in the background throughout. The finish is grainy malt and light hops that linger a bit. Good all around.
