Keg draught at the Hop Inn, Swindon. Very dark brown, bordering on black. Ring of tan head. Smells of balsamic vinegar, dark forest fruit, salted treacle, over-roasted marshmallow. Small sips are best with this one. It's a sweet beer with a sour note which doesn't work, I can't tell if it's deliberate or just a bit old. Notes of cherry, more vinegar, a little bit of Marmite. Sourness in the aftertaste. Full body with medium carbonation. Intense.

440ml can. Pours very dark brown with a small head. Aroma is dusty toffee, coffee and fruit cake. Taste has sweet toffee and dried fruits with a tangy sour finish.

Tap at Head of Steam, Birmingham. Pours black with beige head. Flavours of burnt caramel, cola, toffee, fruit cake. Decent bittersweet balance. Medium bodied and not too rich or heavy. Good.
