Care for some hops with your hops? Before we ferment our 5 Barrel Pale Ale, we strain it through a bed of 'em. Then while it ages, we add even more. We like how this gives the beer a fresh, lively finish. We like hops.

As we go about refining the recipe for each new beer, we brew up just five barrels at a time. That's exactly how we arrived at this pale ale -- so that's what we named it. Plus, it sounded a lot nicer than Giant Vat Pale Ale.

Bottle @ Joes Tasting shared with Joes and Dutchdrebus. Slightly hazy orange color, almost no head. Smell hints of sour, old hops (a bit faint) and lightly musty. Taste lightly hops, bitter, fruity. Nice carbo, low to medium body. Note: Best before February 9th 2011.

Bottle looks simple, but really not boring. Beer in the glass zippy, small head. Hoppy-fresh aroma. Starts mild, fine spicy with a sweet touch. Finish more and more flowery-hoppy, reminds me of an IPA, modest sourish, fine grasy. Aftertaste not too dry, again with some sweet hints. A great beer! Thanks to my wife for bringing it back from the states!

Amber/orange in appearance. Honey, sultana and malt on the nose. The taste is honey and malt with a nettley finish. Maybe should be room temperature. Big structure, fairly creamy texture and zingy. Rich but balanced.

Decent. It sounds like a good idea, but not all good ideas are a good choice.

[355ml bottle from Utobeer, Borough Market] Pale amber with a thin white head. Moderate fizz. Fresh-tasting,surprisingly little bitterness, mainly caramel with some lemon and pine and earthy malt, easy drinking but less flavoursome than I expected.
