reDANKulous Imperial Red IPA is a no frills, bold 9.5% ABV India Pale Ale. It pours a pleasing burnt amber with some sweetness due to the Caramalt and roasted barley used in the malt bill. But hops are the true headliner in this elaborate sensory experience. The spicy, piney, tropical complexities of Chinook, Mosaic and Simcoe hops hit you right away with their dank aroma—and they stick around. 12 oz bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Clear deep ruby red color. Big dense off white head with good retention. Aroma’s: caramel malty sweetness with resinous hops. Retronasal it’s quite resinous, a bit (brett?)funky, bitter, toast. Flavor is earthy bitter with some caramel sweetness. Medium bodied. Long firm bitter finish with some toast.

Pour is a dark brown almost red-ish with a large white head. Aroma is a nice pine and resin hop with a little green onion in there. Flavor is malt heavy but not sweet with some pine and grapefruit hops. Not overly hoppy but not a overly malt heavy beer as well. This kind of fits in the middle. Decent and no alcohol is felt.

On tap at ABV. Pours a reddish color with a small white head. A big fruity caramel nose. Toast, caramel, very fruity, deep dank hops, sugary sweet malts. Very nice. Much more of a American Strong Ale. Solid.

Bottle from Craft Brewed. About 3 1/2 weeks old. Pours a clear, deep amber/copper with a full 2 fingers of foam that slowly dissipates. Lots of piney, citrus, orange, nectarine and some faint gummy bears as it warms up. Quite bitter on the palate with a lot of malty, caramel sweetness. Small bottle from Elizabeth Station at Alex’s. Bottled on 2017-06-07. Pours an amber with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, some candied oranges and alcohol. Same taste. Quite good, but a bit too hot IMO.

Man, what a massive, chewy, hunk of red IPA from Founders. Pours a gorgeous red-orange with a lasting beige head and lace upon lace. Nose mixes a deep caramel vein with bright tropical-citrus hops and tons of dankness, underlined by pine and a faint hint of booze. Taste is pretty damn dreamy, a luscious blend of sweet caramel and toasted biscuit underneath a melange of hop flavors, orange and apricot and berry turning into peppery wood and earth, with an herbal back end accented by a floral flourish. Finishes oh so bitter, yet the fade holds on to a lasting caramel sweetness laced with blueberries and bubblegum. Texture is boisterous enough to support the moderate sweetness, yet the alcohol remains dangerously obscured. Holy cow. This is a great beer.

From tap at Taphouse. Light hazy golden amber color with off white head. Malty and hoppy aroma, caramel, bread, pine, citrusy fruity, orange. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Bottle. Big thanks to Maekchu. Aroma pine at first, orange, caramel, just a bit dank at first. Deep reddish brown with a tall, foamy head. Malty, caramel, but roasty, lots of pine, orange, bit of onion dank but more pine and big malt than anything. Bitter, peppery finish. Reminds me of the old school big West Coast reds.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy dark brown, orange glare. Small tan head. Aroma is solid pine and slight fruity hoppy. Dense pine hoppy and solid bitter. Dry and lingering pine finish. Slight warming alcohol into the far finish.
