reDANKulous Imperial Red IPA is a no frills, bold 9.5% ABV India Pale Ale. It pours a pleasing burnt amber with some sweetness due to the Caramalt and roasted barley used in the malt bill. But hops are the true headliner in this elaborate sensory experience. The spicy, piney, tropical complexities of Chinook, Mosaic and Simcoe hops hit you right away with their dank aroma—and they stick around. Take a sip to have your palate simultaneously walloped and caressed in all the right places. Combined, the hops take the beer to 90 IBUs. It’s not just ridiculous. It’s reDANKulous.

12 oz bottle poured to celebrate Frankies closing. Copper, reddish pour with a patchy head. Caramel sweet and bold bitter hop aroma. Flavor is rich caramel, spicy malt, mild fruit, and a solid hop content. Drinks very nice. No way its as high as advertised. All things considered, a fantastic brew.

Keg at Taphouse, CPH, 12/08/16. Rich dark reddish amber with a well appointed egg shell white head. Nose is sticky pine, caramel, biscuit, bitter orange, bread dough. Taste comprises red grapefruit, caramel malt, pine needle, orange pith, toasted grains. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with earthy hop bitterness. Decent enough DIPA but no show stopper.

Bottle from Systembolaget, consumed a few weeks back. Pours a deep reddish brown with a small to medium head. Very fruity aroma with some cakemix, caramel, biscuits. Taste is quite malty with caramel, sweet fruit and some nuts and spice. Moderately hoppy. Lingering harsh bitterness in the long, big, finish. Moderate carbonation. Well made, but not my favorite style.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass. Appearance is mildly hazy, reddish-amber with decent sparkle, finger-width beige fizzy head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is tropical fruit with piney resin, over bready malt base. Taste is similar to aroma--mix of tropical fruit and dank piney resin, with a substantial malt backbone. Palate is full bodied with thick texture, average-to-lively carbonation and flavorful mix of sweet and bitter finish. Overall, a hefty brew all around with strong aromas and flavors but not the largest variety.

Opaque ruby color with a fine off white head. Solid lacing. Looks nice and inviting. Good intensity in the aroma. Medium to full body and a smooth fine carbonation. Quite balanced sweetness versus bitterness. Oily texture. Grapefruit hoppy, pine, resinous, bready, toffee and dried fruits in a solid mix. Power beer.
