On tap at the Arlington brewpub. 10oz goblet is a translucent, deep brown with a thin white head. Aroma is strong, sugary malts, plums, herbs, dark candy and caramel. Smells more like a dark Belgian ale than an English ale. Flavor is dark fruits, sweet, chewy malts and grains, dark candy, caramel and toffee and a little bread. Finish is full bodied and sweet. The flavors, aromas, and finish on this beer are more reminiscent of a dark Belgian beer than an English strong ale. Whatever it was, it was still drinkable, although a tad sweet.
