HOMESTEAD
American Pale Ale, 6.0%
Oak Puncheon Conditioned & Whole Leaf Dry-Hopped
Grains:
64% Estate (grown right next to our brewhouse)
100% Virginia
Impressions of: Freshly sawn pine, golden biscuit, Douglas fir nettle, nectarine flesh
We brewed our first batch of Homestead after opening two years ago and we’re excited to bring it back with some changes because of what our farming provides us.
The majority of grain in this beer comes from our farm. Nearly 2/3, in fact. Think on that for a second: the majority of grain in this beer was grown within hundreds of feet of the brewhouse and taproom where you will be served this beer.
Homestead is a classically-inspired American Pale Ale, done our way. Made with nearly 2/3 estate grain we grew next to the brewhouse that was custom craft malted into lovely Pale Malt.
This beer is mashed with a majority base of our estate-grown malt, along with additions of Virginia-grown pilsner and munich malts, providing lush malt flavor and rich color. Hopped in the kettle exclusively with Simcoe and fermented in stainless before being transferred to our neutral French oak conditioning puncheons. After time in oak, Homestead transferred to the finishing tank for infusion with a quarter bale of whole leaf Simcoe hops from the Pacific Northwest.

Half liter at the brewery pours a murky sunset orange with a cap of white head. Nose has orange rind, malt, dried herbs, grist. Flavor has citrus on the verge of sour but not quite, potpourri and herbs, malt, corn. Finishes dry, bitter. You'd confuse the puncheon fermentation for some age. 6 4 6 3 12
