The name Schild Brau essentially means “shield Beer” in German. The Schild Brau Amber is our flagship beer crafted the same as the special beers of Munich in the Vienna Lager category. Our beer uses the same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. This beer has been with Millstream since we opened our doors in 1985. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirms why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewery at its best.

Bottled. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has primary notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel as well as lighter notes of pumpernicle bread, alcohol, and bread - reminds me of a bock. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

A majestic thanks goes out to caneyehavefourbeers, hehheh, for this one! Has a sweeter candy armoa. Orange brown in the bottle without any sediment. Slight haze. Head fades to nothing after a few. Initial taste and impression is way higher than the 4.9% listed here. If it was me, I’d say about 6 perhaps even 7! Somewhat thicker oily viscosity in this baby. Strong and wayward. Props across my tongue like an iron ore laden barge being driven by a tugboat against the flow in the ohio river someplace around beaver county. Wew, a little more personality than I care for in a vienna. Finish is almost medicine in nature. Yowzer, I think i’m gettin dizzy near the end of this bottle. Rude at times on the way down the throat. Some hops in there lurking around on the end. Comes off somewhat like a spice or veggie brew. I’m glad I got to try this unique brew!

12oz shorty bottle picked up on a road trip through Milwaukee. Id have to assume this beer might be a little past it’s prime. Amber-brown color. Patchy, oily head. Sweet aroma, brown sugar? Fruity, easy drinking malt taste. Wow, this is actually quite nice. Balanced and crisp, this is really done right. Malty and rich, while remaining light and medium bodied on the palate. Light amber malt flavors, lots of cream, and some underlying caramel.

Bottle. It pours a clear, deep golden body with a small off-white head. Malty nose with some caramel, umami and something reminiscent of the fat in cooked sheep. Doesn’t sound very good, but actually it was a quite good one. Malty caramel flavor with umami and roasted malt. The finish is much the same, caramel, roasted malt and umami. Medium body. A nice and quite surprising lager, nothing more. (080822)

12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden deep orange with a fully gone head. Mild spiced and alcohol aroma, mild roasted malt note towards breadish. Mild sweet and breadish roasted base flavour with a mild spice note. Nicely counterbalanced by some bitterhops giving a nice smoothness and balance into the finish.

Bottle from Degarth. Thanks! Pours a hazy chocolate brown with minimal head. Aroma is toasted malt, bread and prunes. Nice roasty chocolate, nut and plum taste. Very nice.

Sweet caramel aroma. Darkish amber color with a vigorous beige head. Nearly medium body with light fizzy carbonation. The flavor is mildly sweet caramel balanced with some hardly bitter, slightly floral hop. The finish is balanced, not all that sweet. Fairly pleasant drink - for a lager.

This is a good lager. Amber color. Dry, medium bodied malt flavor with some caramel. I thought it was more of a Vienna than a marzen.
