The Black Porter was originally brewed as a seasonal beer that only appeared through the winter months. However, due to popularity it is now available in the pub all year round. As it’s name suggests, the Porter is a very dark, malty ale.

Well kept cask conditioned ale at Cask & Barrel. Beige-brown head on top of a more or less pitch black body. Smell of slightly roasted, sweet malts. Taste of creamy chocolate, hints of lactose. Very much on the sweet side, but one half pint was alright (weatherbound in Edinburgh, 01.12.2010).

Cask at GBBF 08. Very dark brown, thin beige head. Pretty nice choc porter. Decent flavour in mouth, good drinkability, tasty, good fullness, makes me feel good. Bit of harsh roast which stings the tongue. Good.
