Barnsey is a truly rewarding and enjoyable beer, carefully brewed using a mix of Maris Otter, Chocolate and Crystal malts together with Bramling Cross hops. Barnsey contains wheat and barley malt.

Dec 2009, Barnstormer: Brown 500ml bottle, poured into a vase shaped pint glass. Deep, dark mahogany red/brown body with a thin biege head on top. Sweet malt aroma, bicuits and molasses, brown toast and thick cut marmalade. The sweet malts rule the roost in the flavours, but not as sweet as in the smell, there is a subtle bitterness from the hops which stops the malt from taking over completely. A good rich depth to this beer, a bit more alcohol and some spices, it could be turned into a very good winter warmer. Impressed, as I always am with Bath Ales, wish I could get their cask beers up here in Shropshire.

Cask @ The Rake, Borough SE1. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma. Fruity malty caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty caramel finish.

Deep brown colour. Aroma is intensely malty and fruity. Quite a thick, rich texture. Full malty flavour, a little bit roasted. Sweet caramel. Nice bitterness in the finish.

(On tap) Dark chocolate brown with good beige head. Aroma of black treacle, mollasses or dark toffee. Medium body with light carbonation. Flavour owes a lot to black treacle without being sweet. Overall a nice dark beer.

Bottle 50 cL. Pours dark amber with small non-lasting white head. Aroma is very malty with hints of banana and chocolate. Taste is dry and bitter with medium bodied palate dominated by a lively carbonation.

Bottle from Waitrose. Pours dark amber with a 3 finger foamy beige head. Swear there’s a bit of bacon in this. Med+ body. Flavor is sweet dark malt with some darkish fruit, and to me a touch of smoky bacon. With time it finally develops some bitter, so it’s arguably balanced. A smoky, fruity beer. Passing strange.

Clear dark brown beer. Smooth and a little dry. Dark smooth malt, no toffee or chocolate - just rich malt. A little supressed and mild hop comes through at the smooth end. Very drinkable.

500ml. Pours a dark chocolate with a medium head. Aroma is dusty cocoa and roasted malt. Taste is milk chocolate to start. Chocolate roasted malt in the finish with coffee on the aftertaste.

Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours a mostly clear, red-brown with a sturdy, off-white head. Lightly toasted malt nose, with some fruits, nuts and light toffee. Fairly sweet flavor, with brown sugar, caramel, faint dark fruits and an earthy, citrusy bitterness. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Finishes sweet, lightly spicy with burnt malts and mild bitters. Nice beer.
