Democracy for Children charity auction
Mikkel, head brewer and owner of Mikkeller and Michael and Jeppe, owners of Denmark’s most specialized beer store Ølbutikken, conceived the brilliant idea of brewing a special beer to be sold at auction to raise money for this project. So they created a special, 8 month sherry cask barrel-aged version of Mikkel’s rare and delicious X Imperial Stout brewed exclusively for the beer festival in Valby, Denmark in May 2007. This is a one-time, very limited edition - only 40 bottles (75cl champagne bottle) are available! Each bottle has been numbered and signed by brewer Mikkel, and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the school democracy project in Mozambique.
Thank you,
Mikkel, Michael & Jeppe

Bottle. Great session and great beer. We have waited to years to gather the seven (8?) people for sharing this great beer. Thanks to Mikkeller for this project. And the rating is not for the rarity of the beer, just the experience of the beer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Frothy lightbrown fair mostly deminishing head. Black colour. Almost a 3 but it got the 4! Heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Powerfull rasin, plumb and vanilla notes. Moderate bitter fantastic complex flavor. Long great finish. Creamy palate. I truly love an imperial stout with this power where coffee is hidden and vanilla is dominating. I am in Ore!

Big thanks to madmitch76 for scoring me this taste from bottle #40. What an amazing treat. It pours lightless void with tiny loose dark chocolate bubbles futilely trying to pull together to form a ring. The aroma is simply utterly huge with dark roastiness, molasses, dark chocolate, booze, sherry, rich dark fruity goodness, a touch of charred wood and oak. Wow! This aroma goes on and on and I can easily smell sherry and chocolate from a couple of feet away. It gets a tad hot on the nose with a big draw. OK, I can’t wait any longer. The first impression of the taste is rich, luscious, liqueur, sweet nectar and YUM! I get smooth rich malts becoming molasses and chocolate by the initial first moment or two. Then it turns toward rich sherry liqueur sweet nectar like dark fruitiness and smooth oak. By midway and to the finish vanilla joins in to further enhance the experience. Into the after taste fading notes of sherry drop out to reveal burnt molasses, vanilla and a touch of oak lingering . . . well, I could still taste it the next morning after brushing my teeth. The beer exhibits smooth barrel notes just mellow enough to allow the rich imperial stout flavors to shine through for this barrel heavy brew.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours completely opaque black with basically no head. Distinct and intense aroma of wood and sherry and loads of sweet, dried fruits while the burned malts are surprisingly downplayed. Very full-bodied, vanilla accents and plenty of prunes and raisins - has a distinct sweetness. Sweetish sherry accents. Somewhat low in carbonation, thick and syrupy. Subdued bitterness. 130109

Entered to celebrate my 12,000th rating. Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown shine under a fast disappearing brown head. The aroma is fantastic with notes of dessert wine - Madiera and Sherry, as well as notes of over ripe fruits, wood and alcohol. The falvor is sweet and with strong notes of roasted malt as well as notes of wood, vanilla, and Sherry. The alcohol tickles the tongue. An insane beer - and insanely great.

Bottle 38/40. This is an awesome beer. Sweet plums in the aroma, with Belgian yeast and malt. Smooth and sweet flavor that includes oak, vanilla, some brandy, and just a hint of sourness. The high abv is entirely hidden. Very thick and heavy, and nearly still like an English imperial stout.

Thank you yespr for sharing this at the RBESG! Black with a small light brown head. head. Overwhelming, intense aroma with vanilla, oak, some caramel, and complex roast malt notes. Rather sweet, with burned and charcoal notes balancing, toffee malty sweetness, aqnd a lingering warm alcohol. I love how wild and powerful it is.

Bottle (RBESG 08): Literally back; sweet dark malt, vanilla, soy-sauce and coffee in the nose; full sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied; strong sweet coffee in the dark-malty finish, additionally flavoured by vanilla. Very impressive....
