Sockeye Red IPA

Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor.
Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red IPA is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a red/brown body with a one finger white foamy head that dies within thirty seconds leaving a decent amount of sticky lacing.
The smell had a thick citrus/pine hops, soft cranberry coming through (interesting for an AIPA, but actually quite nice - I like it).
The taste was pretty bittersweet through the hops and malts backing it up just slightly, nice bittersweet aftertaste, dry finish.
The palate was about a light to medium, fairly sessionable. Carbonation seems to be spot for the style and for me.
Overall, this is a good AIPA that I always try to keep some in my beer refrigerator no matter what.

On tap at Gourmet Haus. Tropical, floral and citrus hops. Slightly hazy orange-amber with full white head that lingers. Head clings down sides. Biscuit malt and floral, perfume hops. Moderate bitterness. A little cloying - could attenuate out more of the sugers.

Father brought this back from Alaska. Nice Red IPA - had a blend of malts to complement the hops - quite smooth. Nothing too crazy, but very nice in it’s simplicity. Good beer

A beautiful, reddish colour, a head is quite weak and beige. Aroma of tropical fruits, mangos, pine, some citrusfruits, fructose and some caramell malts. Taste is strongly bitter at the beginning, pine, only some fruits, citrusfruits and caramell. The aftertaste is dry and pine cone. Medium bodied, slippery and pleasant to drink. Strongly bitter and piney IPA, the good beer.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Half Time, poured into my new Mort Subite glass again, 10/8/12
Aroma: The nose is mostly caramel malts and dry pine hops, with some light citrus and earth notes
Appearance: It pours a hazy amber color with a thick foamy sheet of beige head that leaves heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is bitter up-front, with some mid-palate malty sweetness, and a mid-heavy bitter finish
Palate: This one has a somewhat creamy feel, with a medium body, and a lengthy dry, slightly sticky finish
Overall Impression: I just realized that I hit 250 IPAs yesterday, so this one is IPA Rating #251. Anyway, as for the beer, this is a pretty good one. I thought it was a very solid Red IPA, that's hits all of the marks of what I'm looking for from this "style."

New Beer Distributors, NY 650ml ($6.25): Pours a red color with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is ambiguous citrus and caramel malt. Taste is moderately hoppy throughout, with a slightly sweet malt backbone. Balance is pulled off quite well. Aftertaste is mild. Hops are properly done. This is good, but alas nothing special.
