Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor.
Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red IPA is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

650 ml bottle courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours clear amber with a frothy brownish white head that leaves some thick lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, dark sweet bread, pine, freshly cut grass, sweet ripe tropical fruits, dark honey and orange zest. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter and tiny metallic with oily pine, freshly cut grass, lemon and orange zest, unripe mango, golden syrup, resinous wood, fresh green herbs and hints of pumpernickel. Mouthfeel is smooth, silky, oily bitter, tiny watery and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with oily pine, freshly cut grass, orange peal, resin and hints of dark bread and wet soil.

Sample from a bottle courtesy of JaBier at the Beer ’N Rock Band tasting on 08/27/2010: This brew is a clear reddish-orange color with a medium white head that dissipates to a film. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Grapefruity hops and malt in the nose. Medium body with a multilayer hops character that is moderately bitter and has citrus and pine notes, along with some sweet malt. The finish is resiny hops with a lingering bitterness left over. Good beer through and through.
