Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor.
Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red IPA is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

Bottle thanks to travita. Pours with an off-white head over a copper-bronze body. Aroma is hoppy, spicy, pine, orange. Taste is caramel, bitter, citrus (orange) hops. Lively bubbles. A little faded.

22 oz bottle purchased at the Beer Authority in Lake City (Seattle) Washington. J 4 notched on the side of the label. Pour is ruby golden, mostly clear with a well formed two inch tan head. The head falls slowly with nice streaky lacing. Aroma is nice fresh resinous hops, some light grainy sweetness and a nice dose of sweet biscuit malt. Nice balance and clean. The taste brings out a bunch of grapefruit citrus and bitterness, along with the resin and biscuit malt, though it is decidely less sweet than the nose. Flavor is also clean, with a dry crisp finish and a pleasant grapefruit aftertaste. The palate is thin to medium bodied, nice level of carbonation, really nicely drinkable. Like all Midnight Sun I have had, really solid and well made.

Bottle, home. Very good IPA. The beer is a bright reddish amber, translucent, with a big, creamy off-white head. The aroma is intensely hoppy with a nice caramel malt backbone. I’m a sucker for hops, particularly Simcoe, and this beer has gads of them. It’s a pretty even mix of normal American hop notes: grapefruit rind, floral, pine/spruce. There’s a relatively big malt presence, but the beer seems relatively dry. It’s a bit hard to tell under the bushel of hops that dominate each sip, not that I mind. The feel is really the only thing that tips off the relatively low abv of this beer. It’s not bad or anything, but the aroma and flavor wouldn’t be amiss in a DIPA. I wish that the price was a bit lower, so I could drink this beer more often.

Bottle. Ruby beer with a light tan head. Grapefruit and light summer fruit aroma. Grapefruit, light pine, and light malt flavor. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Good grapefruit and pine flavor lingers.

Bottle shared by coyotehunter. Body is a lovely copper with a tan head and aromas of pine, lemon, grapefruit a little caramel. Flavor is frickin dynamite in a bottle. Hops and hops with just enough malt to keep it all in check. Finishes with a brisk pine and grapefruit bitiness. Thanks Matt!!!!

22oz bottle-pours a foamy off white head and copper color. Aroma is citrus-grapefruit/pine hops, wood, secondary sweet medium malt-caramel. Taste is pine/herbal-tea leaf hops, bitter, wood, secondary medium malt. Northwest IPA on aroma to an herbal English IPA on taste. Thanks to [?] for trade with Joe-jwc215 and me.

Bottled. An amber beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of hops and grass and a lighter touch of spices. The flavor is sweet and very spicy, leading to a dry finish. The body is on the light side. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

OTH tasting 09/06/08. Pours copper with white head. The aroma has a nice load of pine hops, roasted to crystal malts and not really much else. But I don’t need much more. The malts and hops smell very nice. The taste starts dry with roasted malts being quickly followed by pine hop bitterness that peaks to midway. The taste ends somewhat like the way it started with some mildly dry roasted malts and lingering pine hop bitterness. Darn yummy this one.

Pours amber, white head. Aroma very hoppy, fruity. Taste, again, a lot of hoppiness, malty, fruity with some herbal notes. Found it to be just too hoppy, remains a good IPA.
