Bottle on sale from Yamaya 170yen(so near the best by date) Ah it is a schwarzbier not a stout, that makes more sense then... still it poured a nice cola brown with a thick quickly dissipating beige head. The nose is roasty sweet malts, barley and light coffee. An effervescent carbonation reminiscent of sparkling water like Perrier on a fairly thin body. The taste is actually pretty good a well balanced mix of roasted malts, a bit of sweetness and some coffee. Not bad. Knowing it is a schwarzbier I’d say it’s quite true to style and among the nicer ones I’ve had lately... though actually it isn’t a style I seek out.

TASTE: light malt flavour with a neutral character. moderate roasted notes of coffe and dark bitter chocolate lasting into the finish. low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. no noble hop flavours discernible and clean lager profile. PALATE: medium-light body with moderate carbonation. no astringency. OVERALL: a nice portuguese schwarzbier.

Bottle. An almost clear one, dark reddish brown in color and with a small, dense, dark beige head on top. The aroma is chocolate-ish, with a meaty touch, some toffee and a grassy, hayish touch. Chocolate, nuts, caramel and some toffee in the flavor, not much bitterness going on. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Long, chocolatey finish. Quite nice this one, but not exciting. 141011

33cl Bottle purchased in the Azores and opened at home on 25th June 2014 with 6 days before it’s BBD remaining. Poured robustly into a Gordons Thistle shaped glass. It looked lovely: deep ruby red with a full, deep tanned foaming head, sadly the head fell away a bit too quickly for my liking. Sweet malty molasses in the nose with not much else. The taste was also malty but with a seawater, almost salty feel, weak and thin, I had trouble finishing the glass. Luckily I had some Brie and Pretzels close by to help me. The worst Portuguese beer I’ve had so far, and that is saying something, because I’ve not had a really good one yet!

przyjemny, dość intensywny zapach palonych słodów, kawy zbożowej i lekkiej śmietanki. kolor ciemnobrązowy, pod światło rubinowy. piana przyzwoita, beżowa. w smaku dość puste, czuć głównie kawę zbożową, lekki popiół i nuty śmietanki. goryczka niska, prawie niewyczuwalna, za to jest bardzo lekki metaliczny posmak. całkiem fajne sesyjne piwo.
