A traditional 80/- Specially brewed to mark 25 Years of Brewing at Broughton Ales. Typical of classic Scottish 80/- ales, Exciseman’s 80/- is dark and slightly sweet. Full drinking with a good hop aftertaste. Just the sort of ale Burns would have savoured during his time as an officer of the Excise.
Major ingredients are:
Optic Pale Ale Malt, Black Malt, Crystal Malt. Hops used are English grown Challenger, Fuggles and first Gold.

Bottled@Poirotti’s Skotoberfest 2007. Dark murky reddish brown colour with big beige creamy head. Aroma is sweet malts along with some berries and fruits in it. Flavour is quite sour and bitter compared to what the aroma promised, but in a quite nice balance.

Bottle from Peckhams, Glasgow. Ruby with lasting beige head. Some nice red berry aroma, some palma violets, some very nice milk choc. Yeah, it’s alright, but pasteurised so too much candy sugar, but still pretty good due to the milk choc.

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear, orangey brown with a creamy, beige head leaving laces. Discreet aroma of nuts and caramel. Fairly light body with light notes of caramel and roasted malt and a discreet, underlying sweetness. Ends dry though. 290107

Bottle. Very malty aroma with a little brown sugar and a hint of flowery hops. Clear dark brown colour, stable head. Very malty flavour that unfortunately has a slightly sharp bitterness. Liquorice aftertaste.
