An IPA that maintains the classic bitterness and robustness of the style but with the addition of beautifully fruity American hops and all at an ABV that can be enjoyed all night (4.1% in cask and keg and 5.0% in bottle). Impressively strong and full-flavoured for its ABV, this is a piece of classic and bold Butcombe engineering!

Bottle. Another Brunel-themed beer. Aroma was of caramel with citrus and floral hops. Flavours of marmalade and grapefruit before a long bitter finish. Very pleasant.

Cask Small but persistent yellowish head over dull orange-amber ale. Flowery, hoppy nose, very fresh flowers, both as in -hops and the garden kind, even some honey. Sweet but not cloying, just maltbacking to again flowery hops taste. Fresh, but a beer that might tire easily. There’s a slight sulphury flavour as well, retronasal. Light to medium bodied. Nice, really, but close to the end of good condition.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. This beer is on Wetherspoons spring list of guest ales, so should make its way round to everyone. Copper colour with thin off white head. Good earthy hop. Warm malts in mouth with touch of chocolate. Smells like an orchard in autumn. Lots of good white flesh fruit, earthy bitter, drying hop finish. Very tasty. Full in mouth with heavy dose of Fuggles and Goldings on the end.
