A stout like no other. The antithesis of bitter Irish stouts, this is creamy, smooth with underlying chocolate notes imparted by generous amounts of roasted malts and oats. Pours with a dark body and ivory head. It’s a tall, dark handsome pint.

Cask at Live and Let Live, Cambridge. Pours rich brown with a frothy, beige foam head. Lots of sweet toffee and dark fruits in the aroma. Light to medium sweet flavor, mellow roasty dark malts, lots of dark fruits, prunes, raisins. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Great cibdition. Moderately sweet finish, more sweet dark malts, very faint roast, dark bready malts. It’s a really, really drinkable beer, but it just doesn’t have the roast and chocolate character I would expect from a stout.

Cask@ Spitting Feathers Tap, Chester. Deep dark brown looks with a thin tan head. Roasted nose with some dark chocolate lurking. Flavour was similar with prevalent roasted malt, dark fruit, and a fullish earthy quality. Lingering bitter finish. A tidy stout that slipped down just fine. Stick the kettle on.....

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 6/05/09. Jet black with a slight, tan head. Big aroma of dark chocolate and coffee beans. Flavour had more chocolate, roasted malts and was complemented by a slight trace of treacle. Finish was lingeringly bitter. Very good.
