Strong aroma of burnt malts and a touch of coffee. Flavour is a touch milder but retains the strong bitterness.

Cask (backlog). Very deep reddish brown colour, close to black. Mediumsized creamy brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, toffee, some burnt wood, liquorice and caramel to it. Flavour is nutty, roasted malts, liquorice, chocolate, ripe fruits and mild toffee. A beauty, which is really nice and bold considering the abv too.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Has a heavy roasted malt nose and heavy taste - and full bodied as you might imagine. It’s not quite as tasty as its aroma suggests it might be. Black with a thick off-white creamy head that sticks.
