A rather dark brown ale with a thin off white head. A pleasant aroma of plums, molasses, sweet treacle and light alcohol. In mouth, a good loads of molasses and licorice, with notes of black pepper, some good British hopping, tobacco. Rich bodied. A beer to be savoured. Bieropholie imports.

(Bottle) Dark reddish brown colour with brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with liquorice, soy sauce, dark chocolate, toffee and dark rye bread. Malty, roasted, sweetish taste with black coffee, soy sauce, chocolate, dried fruit, sweet liquorice and herbs. Fiery, sweet and herbal finish. Medium to full body, oily texture. On the sweet side, but a lovely and warming beer to sip.

Rated June 2008. This is the tenth and final beer in our June 11th Old Ale Blind Tasting. It finished in 4th place. Pours clear amber with thin tan head. The aroma is date, prune, plum and raisin dark fruitiness. There's also mild cherry candy sweet and tartness too. The taste is malty sweet leaning toward caramel. Behind that is a note of sugar coated plum sweetness. There's some grapes mixed with caramel too. Wow, very dark fruity goodness. Almost tastes like a rich sweet grape juice. This one seems to border between the styles of English Barleywine and Old Ale.

Bottle. Clear medium brown color with a large, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, dryed fruit, raisin, plum, vinours, brown sugar, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration, and a dry finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. (160408)

Bottle that Kalli shared at haukur’s tasting on 1 May 2008. Pour is brown - amber - ruby, with only a thin off-white head. Aroma of honey sweetness, malty caramel, roast and peatiness. Very full nose, I sat just smelling this one for quite awhile. Taste is huge, very scotchy, malty, with the caramel muted. The finish is quite peaty and salty. Distinct, and really good. The palate is full and silky. Takk for sharing this one Karl.

Bottle. Creamy excellent off-white almost lightbrown head. Dark red-amber colour. Moderate malty and hoppy caramellic aroma. Light sweet moderate bitter flavor. Light chocolate notes. Long pleasent finish. Fantastic creamy palate. Wonderfull well-balanced beer, not so powerfull but a beer to drink many times.

Dark brown with medium off white head. Sweet aroma with overripe fruits, roasted malt and caramel. Flavor goes the same way with light chocolate notes. Ends sweet with warming alcohol.

Small light brown head. Deep red body. Deep sweetish malty wild berry aroma with spicy pepper and raisin notes. A touch of cinnamon, too. Sweet earthy caramelly cinnamon and licorice taste with raisin and chocolate notes. Light sweetish watery mouthfeel. Very good. (0.33l bottle shared with gr0ve.)

Dark ruby brown with a lasting tan head. Intense dried fruit aroma, with port and a little malt. Dry and malty, vineous with a rich finish of dried fruit and toffee malt.

Clear ruby red color, small brown head. Strong nose: vanilla/fudge, licorice and raisins. Liquerish and port wine -like palate. Flavor is not quite what I expected after delicious nose. Very metallic flavor, some vanilla fudge and raisins. Ageing might help here, now just too simple (especially for being Traquair-brew).
