I believe this was the first Smisje, a honey beer since 1996. Malty and yeasty, with a rather subtle presence of honey in the nose but more so in the mouth, thus becoming sweet (after a rather neutral onset), with a yeasty, fruity finish with low bitterness. Typical Belgian honey beer, not all bad but I had better examples of the style.

Honey beers are usually too sweet and unfortunately, this one is no exception. It still has the Smisje touch, but the sweet honey is too dominant.

7th May 2008. Nominally a honey beer but tastes overwhelmingly of chemicals and soap. Infected? Undrinkable!

bottle, pours dark orange thin off white head. Sweet flowery aroma. Thin biscuit malt flavor with some orange and sweetness coming in at the end. Carbonation is very light, but it makes the finish more pleasant. Eh...

Pours with a small head and leaves a sticky lacing. The color is a very muted, dark, thick, murky dirty golden. Aroma is strong with light tartness and semi-sweet berry esters. Then there is a meatiness and light bark. Don’t know where Johan gets these weird aromas (in this case a weird combination of strong yeast and honey). Taste becomes a bit lacking, losses all those esters and berry/fruit. Left is a bland meaty-tea flavors. Its a bit briny as well. Despite my weird descriptors there was nothing offensive about it. Easy drinking, a nice brew.

Bottle. Clear medium orange amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, moderate yeasty, light honey. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (050308)

[Courtesy of yespr - session @ yespr] Hazy muddy orange with tiny head. Sweet aroma with honney notes. Sweet and somewhat unbalanced flavor. Must be a vintage that didn’t make it…

33 cL bottle. Pours clear golden orange with a lacing white head. light spiced and mild soapy aroma. Flavour is earthy, herbal and slight acidic. Goes into a light herbal finish. Strange and undefineable - but not unpleasant.
